Welcome to Baby Peaches!Reprinted from the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, May 6, 2004
Baby
store helps needy new moms Shoppers at Babies "R" Us in Morrow have a chance to celebrate Mother's Day by helping new moms with baby items through a nonprofit program called Baby Peaches. Sanchia Patrick of Baby Peaches, based in Peachtree City but working all over metro Atlanta, says the store has agreed to provide a Baby Peaches registry during May. Customers find the registry on the store computers and purchase Peach Baby Bags or other items, Patrick said. The Peach Baby Bags contain a newborn thermometer, electrical outlet covers, a comprehensive baby care book and video and hygiene items in a convenient cloth bag, said Patrick. Most of the mothers helped by Baby Peaches "don't even have so much as the bag," she added. "We help mostly those new mothers referred by the Grady Health System," Patrick said, "and that may include those who are uninsured, homeless, unemployed, infected with HIV, or just having a hard struggle. If we can get a better start for the children, one newborn at a time, that's what we want to do." Baby Peaches was founded in 2002. Patrick said that the Mother's Day celebration creates an ideal time for "thinking about helping mothers, not just honoring your own --- or making a gift in her honor or memory."
